OpenAI employee says this skill will be the most important in 2024

Logan Kilpatrick, who is now developing Developer Relations at OpenAI, recently tweeted about his views on the future of skills in the tech sector. Kilpatrick challenges the common assumption that prompt engineering is more important than effective human communication, despite the fact that many people think this talent will be essential for the future.

"Many believe prompt engineering is a skill one must learn to be competitive in the future," says Kilpatrick in a tweet. The reality is that prompting AI systems is no different than good human communication."

He emphasizes reading, writing, and speaking as the three core abilities that will be important in 2024. He thinks that honing these abilities—which are essential for having meaningful conversations with people—will prepare people for a world in which artificial general intelligence (AGI) is commonplace.

Kilpatrick's knowledge is derived from his work at OpenAI, where he concentrates on making their ChatGPT plugins and API accessible to developers. Additionally, he serves on the board of NumFOCUS, a nonprofit that funds some of the most well-known open-source scientific initiatives worldwide.

He also discusses in his tweet how society already interacts with "human general intelligence," which is akin to the abilities required to communicate with artificial intelligence. "You already live a life filled with many examples of Human General Intelligence (HGI)," he declared. You probably have close ties to HGI and work with them.
